This native, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub has multi-season interest. It typically grows in a vase-shaped form but tends to sucker and form colonies. Clusters of white to light pink 5 petaled flowers appear in the spring, followed by abundant glossy red fruits. Fruits ripen in the late summer and persist throughout fall and well into winter. Leaves are glossy dark green above and grayish green beneath. Foliage turns bright red in autumn. Reddish bark adds winter interest.
